I am involved with a two-year-old volunteer organization in Pittsburgh called Off the Floor Pittsburgh. It is dedicated to eradicating poverty in the Pittsburgh area by providing the most basic needs of beds, tables, chairs and kitchen utensils to families who are literally eating and sleeping on the floor. I am posting this message to ask for your support.
In 2004, a woman felt called to stop her car and offer to help a woman and her two young daughters who were living in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Pittsburgh. She discovered that the family had no beds, no tables, no chairs. With the help of a local church, used furniture was collected and given to this family so they could enjoy what most of us consider the basics of living.

I am a Homeschooling parent of a 10th grader in need of a good Geometry tutor to start asap. I want a flexible person with good knowledge of teaching/learning skills. Please let me know if you are a tutor or know someone who can teach this subject.
Maybe I've missed this on the Web site, or when I signed on for the listserv, but is there a policy about how the listserv submissions are moderated? How does the moderator choose what's posted and what is not? Some issues are discussed ad nauseum, while others tell me their postings are denied/blocked. What are the policies or guidelines involved? thanks!
I was wondering if anyone could give me any information about the Gardens on Stanton Avenue, before the entrance to the park. My Grandfather gardened on several of the plots for as long as I can remember. When he passed away this past May, I wanted to keep the tradition alive and took over two of his plots over the summer. I noticed that fewer and fewer plots are staying occupied, and felt sad that such a wonderful piece of land is slowly being forgotten. Can anybody tell me who actually owns the land and if there is another way for people to learn about the gardens other than by word of mouth.
The "Forums" section of the Highland Park web site is not quite ready for prime time. Until the issue with the site loading v e r y s l o w l y has been resolved, the forums will probably be too painful to use.
